When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. No one dreams of being a slave.
No More Traffik is launching their annual campaign today to raise awareness of Human Trafficking. The issue has been widely publicised recently because of the shocking abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Islamist extremists in Nigeria a month ago. It has brought worldwide attention. You can speak up against this atrocity here.
But, as has been pointed out, the issue is not new to Nigeria – it has been going on for some time. It is the scale of it that has shocked us. And so it should.
Human trafficking is going on all over the world. It is reckoned there are 27 million slaves in the world today.
But the good news is that people are becoming aware. People are rising up. People are joining the fight.
No More Traffik has lots going on this week – take a look at the list of events, join in when you can, tell others, share stories, think of ways you might raise awareness where you are. Let’s not let this go on.
For no one dreams of being a slave.
